The consultation period for this new crossing has now ended and received unanimous support. The project is approved and is in the West Sussex County Council Highways work schedule for 2021 with work currently planned to start on Tuesday 16th March and last about 4 weeks. This signalised crossing will improve road safety for school children at the bus stop going to and returning from Rother College, access for children attending the town’s sports ground and for residents and visitors using the sports ground entrance to the National Trust Petworth Park. In addition, improvements to the crossing facilities for pedestrians crossing Downview Road is being implemented to improve pedestrian safety and support sustainable transport links.
WSCC Highways have produced a list of Frequently Asked Questions detailing plans for the works.
