Xmas Event

Can you spare an hour or two?

Saturday 4th December 2021

Would you like to get more involved in the town’s Christmas Event?  Here are a few of the volunteer tasks that are available.  Our aim is to have teams sharing the work so that no one person is overloaded.

The Christmas Event is special, and unusual in that most of the work is done by a small band of volunteers, rather than paid contractors.

Putting up the lights: this is done on four consecutive Sundays from late October.  If you could help with a 2 to 4 hour slot on any (or all) of these Sunday mornings, then we would like to hear from you.  A bribe of coffee and bacon sandwiches will be offered.

Road Stewards on the day:  in 2019 about fifty 1-hour slots were required and filled by thirty-five volunteers.  Let us know if you could do an hour and would like to be added to the team.

Senior Steward ‘Managers’:  this year we are looking for three people to ‘manage’ the stewarding, each on a 4-hour shift.  There can be up to eight stewards on duty at any one time, so these are key roles to make sure all is running smoothly.

Christmas Music Stage Assistants: a live music schedule runs from about midday to 7 or 8 pm.  We need three or four volunteers to welcome and thank the performers and give general assistance, on a circa 2-hour shift each.  Introducing the performers on the PA system is optional.

Putting Up Stalls on the day: this is not for the faint hearted, but may suit anyone who likes ‘big’ Meccano.  About 20 stalls are assembled in Lombard St and the Market Square by a small team between 6 and 8 am and then taken apart after about 7pm.  The reward for this task is copious quantities of hot toddy (usually in the evening!).  A few more helpers would lighten the load for the rest.

Help Cleaning Up afterwards:  extra helpers are always welcome as there is always lots to do from about 7 to 9pm.

If you would like to offer to help with any of the above tasks please contact Laura Smith, Town Clerk, on 01798 344883 or clerk@petworth-tc.gov.uk
