The Town Council has provided, and each Autumn will top up, salt grit bins throughout the town. West Sussex County Council will grit the main ‘A’ road through routes, so all other grit spreading is the responsibility of the local community. The intention therefore is that grit spreading throughout the town will be on a ‘self-help’ basis with individual local communities and streets taking responsibility for gritting their area when residents or businesses feel it is required.
In the event of an exceptional winter storm the Town Council will intervene to co-ordinate an emergency response, but in a typical winter the ‘self-help’ system will apply.
